Hi

We have a mare who is due to foal anytime. We are unsure on the dates as we purcharded the mare unknowing she was in foal. I have taken her to the vets who said last week after a internal examination she is due to foal anytime. We have been camping at the stables for the past week thinking she is starting to show changes but the foal has not appeared yet. She has wax yesterday but today it is gone. Does Wax sometimes disappear? Could she have rubbed it off whilst lying down? I cannto understand it. She lies down a lot on a night as I have been checking every couple of hours and she is laid down sleeping. She is in the field during the day grazing and have not seen her asleep during the day. The foal has gone quiet, I can still see it moving slightly but not kicking, she has been leaking clear mucus like substance from her vulva. Her back end has dropped, she is rather moody today, yesterday she had milk dripping from one of her udders. Any help and advice on this matter would be much appreciated...

You would probably get better response in breeding section.
Yes wax will disapp ear/get knocked,If she is running milk be aware that the foal may miss out on colostrum[the early milk containing essential anti bodies]
She should slacken the muscles around the tail as she gets closer to foaling.
It sounds fairly imminent, I would think within 24 hours.
Good luck.

Agree with be postive, my old mare, went past hre date by a fortnight, I was sleeeping in the stable with her, she waited till I'd gone home for something to eat and have a shower, came back and she'd just foaled. Another mare which we bought, we got told maybe June, as she hadn't taken the first time and had been covered again, this was in the FEb, Willow was born 13th March and the mare had shown no signs, no bagging up, no slacking of the muscles, just got there in the morning, she wasn't yelling for her food as normal, when I got to the stable there was a small pair of ears sticking up over the door:D:D

Her bag now doesnt look as full and she has no new wax, she was rolling and laying in her stable last night, but still no foal.. I really hope the foal in OK.. any thoughts?

okay, this afternnoon she is itching her bottom kicking at her tummy and biting her sides, her tedets are now bigger, still no more wax.. do we think this is the start???

There will be no more wax.
Let her settle and give her some privacy.
Check her from a distance if poss.
I would think it will happen soon ,but she may wait until she feels as if she is alone.
