I took Rupert to his first show last weekend, and have to say we're hooked. He was very well behaved (bar a couple of bucks in the ridden class from excitement!) and definitely got the idea - such a show off! I've not really done showing since I was a kid, so I'm not really sure what we can do apart from coloureds. He's a bit of an inbetween horse, I'd think too heavy to do riding horse, competition horse etc but also not really a full on cob or hunter...He's just turned 5 and stands at 15hh or just over depending on how he's feeling!

At the weekend we did inhand coloured horse/pony and won it - and then ridden coloured and came 6th out of a big class. Here are some pics, if anyone can advise on what other classes we could potentially do, that'd be great. The next show has hunter, competition horse, cob/cob type, riding horse etc. And any pointers on turnout that we can improve also!

Could go into the coloureds obviously lol the novice and the open showing. Depending how much home he has if he's chunkyish a 15hh show hunter pony?

Gorgeous!

I'd say less plaits, ideally you want an odd number so the neck doesn't look 'split', I tend to aim for 11 or 13.

Things like best turned out, best ridden, possibly riding club horse.

Double bridle is more 'correct' I believe for most showing classes unless snaffle is specified.

Yes I thought there were a lot of plaits but his mane is so thick, even after pulling - less plaits would be golf ball size! I better keep pulling...
And we're going to start in a double bridle but didn't want to just put him in one for the show as he's only ever been in a snaffle.

If you can bear it pull the tail rather thab plait it. Being 15hh he can do Internediates if you are 25 or under and he can do Small Hunter - the judge will ride in this class so maybe go to a few morw coloured classes until he settles better.
