Sorry this is long!!
Merry Christmas!!
Hi all my 2year old entire lab is once again being strange. See prev thread re not eating.
We changed his food a month back now after original stop eating scenario. All going well until tonight. Suddenly not eating again, he is growling if we go in his space but looks like he doesn't want to be as knows its naughty- if you understand.
He is due back to vets Fri for second part of his lepto jab as its been updated this year apparently. So when we go back I want to tell them about this. Last time we went just had general check and anti bs incase tummy infection. But its not right im guessing its pain but no idea from where.
He has no tender area to touch and not limping. He was sick this morning but only bile-which isn't a rare occurance. Could that be linked? Iv always though odd how he is sick once a month on average. Always bile and in the morning-presume stomach acid causing it.
Any ideas?? He is eating treats and has eaten his tea eventually tonight so nothing urgent going on as such.

Sorry for late response. He was on skinners salmon and rice.but after going off that now on a chicken and rice mix I think its called wet noses same ingredients as skinners but different flavour and lower protein.
I am wondering if it could be hormone related but think will just ask for a blood test of everything to be done. Infection, inflammation , hormones etc.
Does it sound like it could be hormone related. He does seem extra tired recently but then if his hormones are flowing now fully mature maybe he is mentally more tired.

If he's tired, it could be thyroid, but bloods should help identify the problem. Good luck, it's so worrying when we don't know what going on with them...

Cinnamontoast I'm glad you put that. He is fed between 5 and 6 usually. The times he is sick in a morning I do think coincide with him being fed early about 4.
Amymay yes he was checked for a blockage but only palpated not xrayed. My first thought when he stopped eating originally was that but he was and is pooping normally.
I will ask for complete bloods to be done tomorrow morning at our appointment.

unlikely to be hormonal. repeat vomiting I would worry more about pancreatitis. but no idea if that's what is going on tbh-sounds like he needs a full work up as you say

This is a recent thing. He has never been fussy- typical lab in that he has an anti gobble bowl.

On speaking to my dog trainer and friend tonight and running through it all it appears to have started since his boosters last month, he had to have the new lepto and is going back for part 2 tomorrow although obviously he is actually going back for this issue and wont be getting jabbed while off colour. We have made a list of all relevant issues days he has been grumpy not eaten properly etc. She is of the opinion it is him guarding himself for some reason and it appears to be linked to not wanting to eat with being growly- maybe that its causing him pain somewhere along digestive tract??
Really hope we get answers tomorrow its breaking my heart not knowing.

I would be inclined to also ask for an x-ray as well as full bloods tomorrow, to check for an inflammation or similar in the gut - this would not show up in bloods, I know from my own experiences with my lurcher. Does he have diarrhoea at all?

No diarrhoea. Thanks I didn't realise that would show up on xray. I am hoping to get bloods back with a clue to inflammatory markers or white cell count.
Have just googled lepto, he has 3 out of 4 main symptoms- could his booster have actually infected him if he was already run down for some reason??

Sorry I don't know about the lepto - it is possible I suppose. My lurcher had lymphoma of the gut, the thickening of the gut wall showed on an x-ray so they operated and found his whole gut was inflamed - but his symptoms were chronic diarrhoea as well as a refusal to eat, so almost certainly not the same as your boy has. I hope you can find the answer for him tomorrow

Unfortunately he was PTS the day that they operated, it was incurable and he was very, very unhappy in himself by that time :( But I am sorry to put a downer on your thread, I am sure you will find out what is wrong with your boy and he will be absolutely fine, do let us know how you get on :)

Just to update.
Had full blood tests taken this morning. Some have been done in house some have had to be sent off. The ones which came in house have all come back normal, no kidney or liver disease. His cholesterol is on the low side which can knock appetite apparently.
He does have an ear infection so treating that in case its the cause of his pain and grumpiness. Vet doesn't think that would affect appetite tho.
We are waiting on results for Addisons disease, vitamin b and folate results and also something else. And fecal and urine analysis. Wont get those results until next week.
So at moment we are not really any wiser- unless it is his ears causing it we should know that too by next week as drops should have had effect by then. If not he will have to have xray tummy, chest and scan of both.
