Hi everybody

My new pony is coming soon. She is 5 and has been backed and turned away. She's very laid back and when I went to see her the current owner tacked her up and ride her round the arena with no problem.

I've had horses before but I've never had a youngster before.

She hasn't seen traffic yet and hasn't really done much at all.

I will be paying someone qualified to help me but I just wanted everyone's opinions/ideas of what exercises/fun stuff I should do to start off with her and help her learn?

Thanks

Beth

I would start with seeing what your instructor suggests initially, then work on that. Other than that, find some hacking buddies, let her gain confidence from them while you get used to each other. Take your time.

You can do bomb proofing stuff in the arena ( if you've got one) which will help with building trust and gaining confidence. Is she fit? If she's been turned away and only ridden for the sale viewing then you may have to start from the beginning with a fitness plan.
