Years ago I had some 'Muckers' and I wore them all day, mucking out and riding, fetching horses in from the field and these boots just seemed to last forever.
I wanted another pair as I hate wearing wellies every day for dog walking and I thought the Shires velcro ones looked a lot like my old pair. Well they weren't because 3 weeks later they had split across the top at the point that creases when you walk. For £35 they were a bad buy, but luckily the money has now been refunded.
I have been looking online for a stronger option, as I said they will be used for dog walking - no horses here these days so I wont be riding in them.
I really want a pair that will last, preferably velcro fastenings, laces would be my next choice. I don't want the zip up ones. Most importantly they need to be strong.
Does anybody have a good make of this type of boot that they would recommend? I don't want to go through this again, and I am badly missing the muckers since I sent them back, with the holes across the tops.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

agree with you on this, used to be the all-day things to wear but I do not think they are made of the same stuff these days, perhaps like the hunters do not last anymore :(

Have you tried 'The Muck Boot Company' alot of places stock them and the prices and options are great. I have gone through brands after brands after brands and having both a made Springer and a horse i am out 24/7. I bought these muckers about 3 years ago and there are AMAZING. They still look new, keep my feet toasty in the coldest weather and dry in wettest. They are just slip on, no laces or velcro.

Another great make i recommend is Kinpurnie. I bought a pair at Olympia about 2 years ago for cheap as there are very expensive boots BUT they are worth every penny. There have seen all kinds of weather, look a little on the muddy side but everything else about them is as good as it was when i first bought them. They have a variety of designs, i have the zip up with the buckle fastenings. Derby House have a sale on them at the moment and they are a bargain price.

Both boots i highly recommend and as i said, i am in them almost 24/7 in whatever weather with both a dog and a horse and they have done amazingly well.
Sorry if i waffled on, but hope that helps.

Like you I don't like wellies. I bought a pair of Harry Hall Muck boots about a year ago, I only wore them for a couple of months before the weather improved and I didn't get them out again until November, they soon split and I was getting wet feet! About a month ago I bought a pair of ankle boots (they're like johd boots) from The Muck Boot Company and so far I love them. My dad has a pair of wellies from The Muck Boot Company that he's had for a couple of years.

I have some willies from the Muck Boot Co, and they are lovely and warm but rather heavy! Are the ankle boots light weight? I too am wondering what to buy as my Shires muckers have disintegrated on me, luckily I didn't pay much for them as they were in a sale!

They are bigger and heavier than normal johd boots, but not too much, they are really comfortable.

PMSL!

I use Ariat Brossard winter paddock boots. I got them in the USA for a steal (70 dollars or something) and kept them for 'good' and riding for ages but finally had to relent, I've trashed absolutely every other pair of shoes or boots I own and they have been fantastic. I imagine the long ones are good too.
