Hi guys want your opinions please i am thinking seriously about moving yards. The current yard i'm at is just my horse plus the YO's 7horses well her 5 and her daughters 2. The arrangement we have is that she puts V's feed in in morning and sticks him out(i leave for work at 5.15am i'm a postie), and in exchange i take all of her lot in. so basically i end up getting part livery for price of DIY, I pay £40 p/w this includes straw, haylage, hard feed. I'd say Vinnie is pretty happy their generally. My main issues are that i have ended up doing an awful lot more than just taking her horses in i also end up filling nets and hanging them, doing the feeds, water buckets etc (i find it very difficult to say no or if i get their and somethings not done who else is going to do it? i used to work on a yard for years and i feel she takes avantage of this), i am also not to happy that when it rains even just slightly the horses do not get out. V is only 18months old so i dont feel its fair on him or good for him to be stabled so much
Also just lately there have been notes left saying make sure the muck heap is kept tidy, yard is swept etc this is obviously aimed at me even though i am pretty obssesivly tidy at the yard to stop such things occuring after all i'm only mucking out 1 horse she's doing 7. There is also no mains electricity and the generator never works properly i have to muck out by car lights. Approx 5miles away (sorry rant over)
So the new yard is in my Village i can see the stables from my window they are a 2minute walk away. The couple who own them are lovely. £20p/w to include hay and straw, bigger stable than what he's in now the horses only come in at night in winter otherwise out 24/7 with access into the stables all the time. good grazing. my only concerns are that the 2 horses they have are very old 1is a 31yr old ex racehorse who has not 100% vision and the other is a 20yr old pony i am concerned that V being so young might upset them considerably although he is generally a very quiet boy and is used to being turned out with all types of horses old and young he just generally keeps himself to himself. my other main concern is that they strip graze with electric fencing V has never met electric fencing and i'm concerned he will just jump clean over this as its fairly low. i've never used electric tape fencing before what do you guys think? this place also has no electricity but i think that wont be so much of a problem as i generally finish work about 2pm and i live so close and i'm not doing anyone elses horses at this yard.
soooooo lol was just wondering what your opinions are should i stay with the devil i know or move closer to home and save myself some cash and time?
Thankyou sooo much if you read all this
