So my lovely mare has been intermittently lame since Jan on and off ! She had bad thrush so treated that. And she improved for a while. When she started to when she trots she skips every so often like she wants to goninto canter . Had Farrier and physio out. Then rang vet who said it was stifle could have surgery or prp injection. Tried prp injection. No difference. Went to different vet so second opinion. He was baffled By what she does. And nerve blocked nearly everywhere ! No real difference. Scanned her back and saw bone changed on spine (not kissing spine as bones arnt close ). He said either surgery to cut nerves to stop pain or try anti inflammatory injections in suspensorys ? I have gone with injections and getting saddle fitter out because noticed her flocking is so uneven so that won't help!. Just feel like it's never ending and wondering if anyone had any experiences with the injections good or bad ?
Thankyou for reading xx

The vet said they found changes in the back so i guess some sort of arthritis? Usually injections are cortisone/hyaluronic acid and other stuff depending on the needs, they are usually also the only solution for this type of problems and even though I didn't have problem with arthritis i know that injections are quite powerful and usually heal/alleviate the pain a lot especially if she never had anything done
I think that the vet will tell you to check back in a few months to see if she's healed or if she will need more consistent injections to keep her pain free

One thing I don't understand is if the vet found changes in the back why would they inject the suspensory?

Because changes in the back are often secondary to PSD .

Op has the horse had its suspensories looked at with diagnostic ultrasound

The vet doesn't seem to have checked the suspensory so why do you say that changes in the back are for the suspensory?

Changes in the back often occur because the horse compensates for the pain PSD causes .
The vet has suggested anti inflammatories into the suspensories that’s why I asked if they have done diagnostic scanning of the suspensories .
OP if the vet has not scanned the suspensories get it done .
