I trimmed my horses mane, tail and fetlocks today and I think I must have snipped his corn. Either that or his over reach boot has rubbed it.

Anyway, the little corn on the back of his fetlock has started to come off (about two thirds off) and it is red underneath. It is not bleeding but it is weeping and has been for a few hours.

I have washed his leg in antibacterial shampoo and hosed the area very thoroughly to ensure there is no sand or dust in it. Once it was dry I put loads of purple spray all over it.

I am probably being a complete muppet but do you think this will be ok or do you think I should put a bandage over it? Could it get infected? Should I do anything else?

It's an ergot, which funnily enough IS the name for a type of fungus that grows on corn, as in stuff that grows in fields :)

It'll be fine, treat it like you would a scratch.
