Advice please going to see a horse

I'm going to look at a pony for my lad tomorrow, It's 5yrs and had a foal last year. I have no idea if it matters that it's had a foal or not, i don't want it for that. As said i have no experience of horses having foals so i suppose what I'm asking is will i have any sort of problems from it.
 
A 5 yr old who had a foal last year is likely to be very green and inexperienced ridden. How much experience does your son have?

The having had a foal in itself wouldn't be a problem.

The pony being very green does not worry me as my boy will be on the lead rein and the pony is currently used for that now, just their child has out grown it. I'm quite happy to but the work in to the pony.

I just didn't know if it would make the horse more mareish.

We have a 7 yr old mare on our land who has had 2 foals in her previous home. She was bought at Easter for 2 novice boys and she is fabulous, on & off the lead rein, in all circumstances. We bought her as seen out of the field, we had led her out on the road and thrown my lightweight sister onto her bareback, in a halter, in the school. We couldn't have got a better pony for the job, if we'd known her all her life and had a dozen references. WE have bought ex-broodmares previously and have found them to be very sensible and 'maternal' towards their riders.
