What sort of hairy horse do you have and how often do you clip?
My new neddy i think will be a hairyish monster, i've had him 6 weeks and he was clipped when i had him but not sure how long before that he was clipped.
Ideas very welcome, thank you.

I used to own a heavyweight cob who got very hot and would grow a thick coat so as I worked him quite hard I had to clip him all year round. I couldn't tell you an exact time-frame, I just used to go by when he started to get quite hairy and sweat up regularly (as oppossed to a one off when he might have worked particularly hard, been a really hot day etc), then I would clip him. Normally about 4 times a year, with one clip lasting him all summer and then about 3 needed over the winter. Just go by how much he needs it, some people clip as often as every six weeks.

I managed to get Genie through the winter with just two clips

She was first clipped beginning of November, and then again in January. This year though I'll probably clip in October.

It varies a lot depending on the horse. I clip my big horse all year round every couple of months through the summer but in the winter its more like every month, he has to look his best for hunting. The pony is never done in the summer because of showing but every couple of weeks in the winter!! Its all about how much time and the comfort of the horse.
