as most of you know new horse Jerry was backed a couple of weeks ago, old owner had him in a loose ring jointed snaffle which he seemed a bit fussy in,
i thought i would try a loose ring with a lozange as fits mouth nicely but he didnt seem to take to it, so wondered what to try next,

i have a loosering sweet iron (which is quite narrow) and a jointed fulmer, but not sure what to try, going shopping today so might get something then, any ideas?

he does seem a little fussy in his mouth so being really careful

I take it all his teeth have been checked etc?

Im not one for swapping bits much, I like to give them time to get used to it. I have snoop in a KK ultra loose ring. He was gobby to start with (went in a caverson and no martingale). I then switched to a fulmer snaffle as our steering wasnt briliant lol but now i have popped a flash on him and put him back in the KK and hes much much happier.
Sometimes horses just need time to adjust. Plus, I was made more aware of what i was doing with my hands.

A nathe might be an option or a straightbar. Check his mouth it may be he has a thicker tongue and so the size of the bit or the action is causing him discomfort.

I have had a few TB and IDx who have very very thick tongues a nice thin loose ring has done the trick.

Have you tried a straight bar? Might be worth it, the mare we're bringing on now likes her happy mouth straight bar she just found jointed bits hung to low and she got her tongue over them while playing with it.
Best thing to do is ask a few friends and see if they have any spare bits you could try and see if you can find one that works for him.

The thinner the bit the more severe it is have you tried a happy mouth. Does he prefer straight bars? Pm me for a good website

Alot of horses prefer thinner bits as gives them more room in their mouth and allows them to move tongue which is important as they use their tongue to balance and swallow!! NS do a started bit for babies... gives tongue relief and is specially shaped....

im the same, hate swapping bits, just worried it wasnt quite right for him, will try the loose ring as it is not thick, and he does look like he has a thick tounge, and then just give him some time to get used to it,

teeth all fine, so no worries there

Ditto for metoo _ I also think it helps you keep the horse even in both hands.
Even if his teeth have been checked and are fine - he could be teething and sensitive so you may need to keep an eye on his jaw & general acceptance of the bit.
