Hi I have been offered a horse on loan he sounds perfect for me he does however have arthritis and is on Danalon (?) I have no experience with horses with arthritus or this drug would appreciate anybody who can help.

You need to speak to the vet regarding the horse's long term prognosis as there are so many varients of arthritis. Whatever it has, it is unlikely to be suitable for anything more than hacking/RC work

really depends on where arthritis is - mine has it in hocks has no medication and even though also diagnosed with navicular last yr she is sound and doing prelim dressage again. - all depends -speak to vet

My old girl has had it for years.. and she only semi retired last year and is still happy to go for gentle hacks... well i am, she isnt.

Danillon is supposidly less harmful to the stomach than traditional bute as it is disolved in the liver, rather than absorbed through the stomach lining.

I used to judge the ground and how the horse was moving and felt and tailered my riding to those i.e. if she was well up for it we would have a fast hack, if she was a little stiff we would go for a steady plod and if she was moving well we would school and do dressage
