I am wanting to pay someone (a friend of a friend) to come and do horses when I'm on holidays but concerned this may not be this simple. What do I need to be careful of and make sure for insurance purposes? Only 2 horses at family home (not mine). They would not be riding.

Can anyone advise please?

1) ask them to confirm in writing that they are freelance and responsible for their own insurance/tax etc (your household insurance will cover you to a certain degree).

2) if they are riding, pay them more for stable duties if they will ride for no payment (then BHS gold cover should cover you)

3) write down their duties so there is no room for error or bad communication.

4) chill and enjoy your holiday!
