Just wrote a really good long post and accidentally deleted it all so excuse me if I write a bit odd as I'm really annoyed!
Horse is a 15.3hh middleweight ID X (TB?) 11yo.
I had my mare on Spillers Happy Hoof and Bailey's Top Line Cubes with a splash of apple cider vinegar through last summer and autumn after I bought her looking a bit poor but with a big belly (I think she is just built with a big belly tbh though):

She worked up until November on this, had a couple of weeks off for lameness and looked like this:

I changed her on to Bailey's Working Horse and Pony Cubes on the reccomendation of a Bailey's person at YHL, and worked her through December fine on this. 2007 has been a bit iffy so far as she's had more time off than she has worked and she now has less of a 'drop' to her belly (it's flatter on the underside) and she has sort of sunken flanks. I'm a bit worried that she's losing condition now on the roughly 1kg Happy Hoof she's currently getting (along with Equivite Original and other supplements). She is now on rest due to lameness, hasn't been worked since Feb 3rd other than an occasional lunge or walk up the road, and is kept in 12pm-8am. She's not overly stressed about it all as she is a laid-back person, but it does seem to be taking its toll on her and I think she is feeling underworked.
I really want to put some condition back on her but am reluctant to start feeding hard food again as when she first went lame I kept up the nuts (at a reduced ration) but she started going hyper in the field and teashing the place, and was getting strong to handle. I also don't want to encourage her belly to get any bigger again, as the only good thing that has come out of her having a rest is that that huge belly has got smaller!
I don't particularly want to take her off the Happy Hoof as I like that it has vits and mins in, and was thinking about ditching the Equivite for the cider vinegar again as I think I'm wasting my money on that (hasn't made a difference). I thought about putting her on NAF Pink Powder until we change to summer routine (out at night) and she's less confined and stressed. I don't know thought if I should be thinking about changing her feed? I'm a bit worried that she will drop off entirely all of a sudden, she looked very sucked in tonight at the flanks.
Anyway I hope that makes sense, thanks for reading if you got to the bottom of this! Any info I may have missed just prod me!
Any advice greatly appreciated! And hopefully I'll get some pics of her tomorrow too.
Cheers!

Balancer. Stick her on Topspec, a friend has just put her laminitic pony on it and he looks amazing. it is expensive, but lasts for ages, and has a prebiotic in it, and means you shouldnt have to feed any other hard feed (other than HH) Really rate it.

I agree about the top spec, it is great! You wouldn't need to feed the happy hoof or pink powder etc, as it has it all in already. If you think she needs more calories, but not ceareals as shes not in work, then what about alfa a, or their laminitic one, possibly with a squirt or two of oli?
I would give the topspec helpline a call.

Eek I'll have to look into how much Topspec will cost me! She's on an expensive supplement at the mo for her bleeding nose which seems to be helping so I don't want to take her off it, plus potential nerve blocks and x-rays for her lameness and I just spent £300 on random bits, oh and RC camp about £300!

Would the Topspec give her enough energy though if it was all I fed? She is a lazy so-and-so, that's why I wondered about the Pink Powder as I don't think she's using what feed I do give her as she's not digesting it properly. I would definately not take her off the HH though, I can;t stand feeding hard food of any sort without a decent amount of chop to bulk it out and slow her eating down. Hmm acutally I hadn't thought about feeding her Alfa A instead though, I wonder if that may help her to keep the condition on...
Thanks guys I will have a think about the Topspec!

I would say hi fi lite and top spec feed balancer, that way she will be getting everything she needs.

alfa A is good but Ive heard it can heat some horses up.

What about top spec cool condition cubes?

She could do with some heating up! It's really hard as she's slightly overweight but losing condition at the same time, and she's getting strong when being handled but when I ride her she's a lazy dobbin! Total RS plod (until she sees a pigeon!) So I really have no idea what to do, whether to put her on something to give her more energy and condition and risk her getting fat and worse to handle, or to put her on something with low energy for "good doers"...??? Argh I hate feeding!!! I'm really not sure I can afford the Topspec tbh after my spending spree!

If she were mine I'd stay with the happy hoof and pony cubes. I wouldn't feed an additinal suppliment because happy hoof is loaded with goodies. Also ensure she has ad lib hay.

This is just the thing though - she is losing condition on it. I am definately going to ditch the Equivite as I'm just wasting my money on it really. She always has access to hay (unless she's being a greedy pig and eats half a bale in an hour!
Thanks

Thanks! I have a lot to think about now! I do like those Bailey's cubes though, they give her turbo power without the weight gain on her belly which is fab.
Cheers!
