Ok well, I am seriously considering moving over the USA to live with my dad...a fresh start and all that!!

BUT I really dont know what to do with Robbie!
I cant take him with me obviously..dont have the money to do that.
Obviously I would prefer not to have to sell him but I have heard so many horror stories about loaning and it would be so hard to find the right person that i could trust.

He isnt the easiest horse...scared of fillers when SJ but getting better...can be spooky and nappy...hacks happilly in company but not so happy alone, fine with me but ive had him 2 years now.
He is very easy to do on the ground and is nicely schooled will jump a set of coloured jumps if there is no fillers and do a nice XC. He is 7 and 15.3hh

Do you think anyone would be interested in buying him/permenant loaning him?

Breaking my heart to write this....=(

Any advice/kind words appreciated.

I'd usually say loan him but if you aren't going to be around to keep an eye on things then maybe selling him is the best option. Even if he is a bit scared of fillers and is a bit nappy he is only 7 so still has plenty of learning to do yet. The right person could look past his quirks and see great potential. Good luck.

I certainly wouldn't loan I am afraid. Too much to go wrong, loaners decide they don't want him, ill treated, etc etc, etc and there's no way you can deal with that from the US.

I'd sell, give yourself a good period of time to be really picky and find the best buyers you can. I sold, I didn't like it at all, decided not to fly the horses out, and loaning just wasn't feasible as my move was permanent.

Turns out that the 14 year old wasn't as healthy as we'd thought (cataracts, heart probs discovered at a pre-purchase exam), his condition would deteriorate, and as I couldn't keep him,I had him pts. I didn't like that decision either but knew it was ultimately the best for him.

Good luck, where are you thinking of moving to? Very exciting.

i feel your pain, i so wish i could relocate (if only there was somewhere to go),
i would seriously look into the expense of taking him with you first then work out from there what you need to do, try advertising him for sale the now and see if you cnat find him a really good home just now? loaning is not a good idea as you are too far away if something happens . P.s. has you dad got a spare room? :)

The "head" option is to sell him. I know it sounds hard but if you are only planning on going to the USA for a short time then loaning could be an option but if this is a permanent move you have to consider how you could keep an eye on him and what would happen if the loan did not work out and you had to find another loaner or you get the horse returned to you when he is much older and retired.

When I moved to Switzerland I sold my horse as I knew I was going to be away for a number of years. When I went to the USA I loaned my horse to a friend as I knew I would be back in a year.

I would sell too, I've had a bad experience with loaning a horse of mine and don't think it is a good idea if you are not around to keep an eye on things.

Also if you do loan him and they decide to end the loan agreement then whaqt do you do?

Yeah, i know that the head decision is to sell him. Is there a market? How much should i advertise him for?

Breaks my heart to even think about it though...so difficult

Why don't you have a look at the usual sale sites, ie, Horsemart etc and see what you think hes similar to. You will find a lot don't let on the horse is wary of fillers etc so a good truthfull ad would be more than welcome. Ask PC DC, local riding clubs etc. If you have competed then say that too. Put ads up at local tack shops, ask friends etc. Even go to yards near by with an ad and ask if anyones looking? Good luck.

Just a thought: but had you thought of putting him on working livery at an equine college? You wouldn't have to sell him then, and he'd be kept worked and schooled, and during the hols it might be that a student would have him on loan.

Just an idea - PM me if you wanna know more.

Hum i dont know about this, he is too much of a one person horse! I just want to do right by him really and i know what right in my head, just breaks my hear to say it....just need some gentle encouragment
