Hi all :)
This is my first post on this forum!

About 2 months ago my horse had a major panic in the trailer because his travel boot slipped down, resulting in him kicking his back shoe off and taking a chunk of hoof with it!!

Any way, farrier came, put shoe back on, but within two weeks had to be called out again due to the nails coming out, and the shoe becoming loose, two weeks later, out again and so on, hoof not looking any better and shoes coming loose every 2 weeks!!

Hector does alot of work including long distance rides most weekends, with a fair amount of roadwork, he does not cope without back shoes on (have tried!!)

Does anyone have and suggestions?

Thank-you all who have read this Xx

Whether or not you choose to use shoes, boots or nothing at all,the key to the best feet possible is the best diet possible. If you read most of the barefoot posts on here or use google, you will finds loads of information on what to feed for healthy hooves.
It might also be worth considering giving the feet and break from shoes for a few weeks to allow some recovery.

Feed lots of healthy horn growing feeds/vits/mins/supplements, take off back shoes and use boots for the time it takes to get the hoof to grow down enough to keep a shoe on. Or look for glue one shoes? Your farrier should be able to give you different options and there are fillers etc that can be used if that is a suitable route for your horse. I would be a little concerned that your farrier has continued to re-shoe when it's clear enough of the hoof is missing to not keep a shoe on?

Thank you for all your replies, i agree now that i have to take back shoes off, and use boots instead, could anyone point me in the right direction please? preferably ones that dont cost too much and can be worn for long distances.

Cavallo's are a good price. Buy off ebay :) google for a measuring guide.

You will need to protect the heel from rubbing. The best thing I've found is mens soccks eith the toe cut off!
