Hi all son went to ride his pony this evening I noticed her thigh was filled or swollen (sorry what's the difference??) She's not lame on it happy to trot in hand before I noticed this I tried to lunge her to wake her up she won't lunge so checked then saw this Istopped my son riding & trotted her up no lameness no cuts heat or anything I've stabled her this evening but very confused of what it could be or if putting her out or in is best for her never dealt with swollen thigh before so that's why I'm in sure any advice please

most likely she's had a kick from probably an unshod horse. A shod one will have broken the skin and you would have seen a visible cut. The fact she isn't lame is a good sign. As she's in there's a chance the swelling may be greater in the morning. Cold hose and see if she's still sound. If so then turn her out to get her moving to reduce swelling. If lame then perhaps ring your vet for advice.

Any photos?
In my experience any type of swelling (like elephant leg) needs vet asap to get it down. My mare came in with swelling and was lymphangitis … for the sake of £100 now, may save you a lot more in the future!

How was it today? Having experienced 2 horses with lymphangitis both of them had it severely and in both cases it affected the entire leg not just the thigh area although I have heard of one pony who had it in her face. It usually however is extremely painful and i'd doubt that a horse that had it with a swollen thigh would be sound. Other possibilities could be a fly bite reaction but if not resolved hopefully by now the op will have called the vet and have some answers.
