Hi im 14 and my mare is 5 years old.
in the summer of 2008 she hurt her back so i didnt ride her for about 4 weeks as we put it down to her pratting around in the field as she is a bit like that. Anyway after about 4 weeks i slowly brought her back in to work and she was absolutly fine. She has been fine up until a few weeks ago when i discovered that her back was quite sore. I was thinking of taking her to the vet to double check that it is definatly her back and then get a back man out to look at her and then check that her saddle is fitting. Would you reccommend this or do something else. Please give advice as i am desperate to get back in the saddle. thanks xx

Start with the vet. PLEASE! Bear in mind she is still very young - discuss with the vet what work you are asking her to do & if he/she thinks that it is OK for her physical maturity.
If vet says OK then get saddle & horse checked by a proper saddler. Only get a "back person" once you have done these things & then only if you OK it with the vet first.
Do you have lessons with a qualified instructor? Could you arrange one? If everything else come up blank it is probably worth getting a good instructor to assess you on the horse- it's amazing how many of us have faults which can affect our horses way of going.
Good luck -let us know how things go.

i would get a back person out we use a mctimoney. the vet does not do backs every day. if you get a back person out they can fix her up for about 30 -50 pound cheaper than a vet plus they do it every day. they should be able to tell you about the saddle aswell so then you cpuld get saddler in.
