Advice please

ok so my new boy came in a french link 3 ring gag bottom hole and at 1st i just put him in a hanging snaffle because he just didnt feel he needed it, but recently hes got stronger so when i went xc i put his old bit back in to maybe have some breaks. Today we went xc and i just couldnt hold him we were completely missing jumps and having to go round the field to slow him down and trying again which then classed as a refusal But i dont want a bit in his gob that hes not going to respect and doing more damage by me yanking Was thinking maybe pelham with 2 reins but i duno what do you lot think??

What's he like when you ride him in a field? Or SJing?

SJ hes very strong too. And havent really taken him to any fields to see what hes like?

Well before switching bits, I'd take a step back and get some schooling in. Poles on the floor, little fences. Get him to learn to listen to you. Set the foundations in. Ride on the flat in a field so he learns he has to listen even in open spaces.

Have you got a good instructor who could come out and help you?

If you do a search on here have a look on BSJAshowjumper123 (has posted a thread today about her switch to a pelham) post over the last couple of weeks. Her post got a bit heated, but a lot of people gave some great advice and good schooling exercised to help with this sort of problem.
