sorry this is gonna be long winded!!
i keep my daughters pony on a small yard- there are only 5 horse between 3 owners, we each have our own field that each run next to one another-divided by 3 strands of electric fence. it is then down to us to section our field into smaller paddocks as we each see fit.
we have one part of ours permenatly sectioned off to make a "school" for my daughter to ride in- shes only 7, still learning and not overly confident. this is unfortunatly next to the next horses section of field, as this is the only part of my field that is flat.
for the last few weeks All had been going well and my daughter was riding nearly every day in the school, both her and pony going well.
the horse in the next field was at the back section of there field and showed no interest in pony and rider working in the school.
however last weekend the pony was moved into the front part of the field and now is next to the school. when my daughter rode last sunday this resulted in the neighbouring horse sticking his head over the fence line and cantering along the fence line, squeeling and generally being a nuisence.setting of the young horse on the third field, my daughters pony then decided that was a great game and trotted off with my daughter back and forth along the fence until i caught hold of him. ( fortunatly he doesnt go faster than trot and my daughter can already manage this pace, though couldnt pull him up enough to stop him)
The horses owner was up the at the time and offered to put the horse in the stable for a while- took her 10 mins to catch it as was merrily having none of it, anyway horse caught and in th estable, my pony resumed schooling no probs.
the problem is now everytime we take the pony into the school the neighbouring horse makes a real pain- my daughters confidence is plumeting and shes hardly ridden this week . the horse owner isnt at a time my daughter can ride, so putting horse in each time isnt an option.
so what to do??
cant move the school cause its the only flat bit of field
cant ride when horse owner there as they not around much
neighbours pony likely to be in this section of field for 6-8 weeks ( all through summer hols
)
should i turn my pony out into the school for a period of each day for next week so he and neighbouring horse become pals and settle down- will this happen/work??
Help!!
well done to those who reached the end!!
