I currently have a 14.1hh fresian x Arab mare, 15 years old who I have out on loan to a young girl at the present moment. I have recently found out that she is currently being placed in a field and not ridden at all and I feel that this is no quality of life at all! I would love to take her back but at the moment am currently studying for my PHD and have little time to give her what she needs, therefore I am looking to sell her. However I have been out of the horsey world for some time and have no idea how much to sell her for and in need of some advice! She is an all rounder pony, literally has done everything, she is the type that will look after you on a ride, she taught me everything from a beginner!

I would be very much grateful if anyone could give me some advice!

If she is being sold from the field as not been ridden for a while you will get a lower price for her. If I were you I would do some work with her first even if it's only for a couple of weeks, so she will go better when somebody tries her. There are a lot of cheap horses out there at the moment though especially coming up to winter. Have a look on horse selling web sites to see what the current market rate is.

As far as I am aware she is not being ridden at all, which I advised the loan holders when they first loaned her that I didn't want her to be placed into a field and not ridden. It's a bit difficult at the moment for me to get down and ride her as she is over 100 miles away from where I live. I don't know if it would be best for me to take her off the loan holders and look after her myself until I can sell her?

Personally I'd prefer my horse to be out in the field and well cared for than to see an ageing horse into an uncertain future. She's worth very little if not in work
