Advice Please

Sorry, I must come across as a right worrier, but I need some advice.

Daisy is booked in for her spay on Monday 9th Feb. OH's son is coming to stay on the Thursday (he's 19), now all of a sudden his girlfriend is coming too.

I'd planned for this whole week to be quiet, for the dog. Now all of a sudden we have a house full.

Do I postpone the operation??

I'm really cross!
 
I would still go ahead tbh. At 19 they're old enough to understand she needs to be quiet and rest. Have you not got a room she can go into on her own away from everybody whilst they are there? Best to get it out of the way now you've geared yourself up for it. Hope all goes well.
 
your buzzy bundle of cotton wool would probably be very cross with you if there was a whole week of quiet, they are usually pretty much back to themselves within 24hrs, by day three she will most likely be on fairly long lead walks.you need to be strict about jumping up and tearing around like a loon so once she is over the mad excitement some guests to the house will probably keep her nicely occupied.
Most vets offer a 2 day post op check after spey surgery so if all is well (and it usually is) your mind will be put at ease then.
 
Do go ahead, it really shouldn't be a problem. As long as they know the rules, no exciting bounding about and no jumping up.
My latest, flatcoat age 2, done last summer, the only way her life was different was all walks on a lead, going into the garden for a wee without the other dogs. She is a 'floor' dog so there was never the issue of her jumping on to furniture and the dogs dont race about in the house.
I know your dog is small and therefore probably comes up for cuddles a bit more but I am sure you will manage. Best wishes.
 
Mine got done the week before Christmas, after a couple of days she was back to normal, and had totally forgotten about it. The hard part was stopping her from running and jumping about the place.
If you brief them all on not hassling the dog, I'm sure she'll be fine :)

Lol, aren't we all?! Yes, keeping her quiet is the main thing, they do heal quickly, far quicker than we could.
Ice is due to go soon and it's not a case of us keeping quiet, it's a case of her not getting so delirious if anyone calls in, she turns herself inside out; I think it must be the Staffie/collie traits coming out!
 
This. Ginny (delinquent hussy) was spayed just after Christmas. She was clamouring for a walk the next day. We kept her on the lead for two days and by day three she was back to her old self. Kept an eye on the stitches - absolutely fine. It was the same after her C-section.

Listen, I understand! My old boy was in the hospital today - a co-worker came and collected him from my house to save me the drive in to town. Anyway, I was a wreck leaving him in her car - and then all day til I got him back and spoke to the vet. He was having an abdominal scan but the whole day I was asking the vet I work with a million and ten questions about it. She must have been so glad to see the back of me tonight! LOL

Listen, I understand! My old boy was in the hospital today - a co-worker came and collected him from my house to save me the drive in to town. Anyway, I was a wreck leaving him in her car - and then all day til I got him back and spoke to the vet. He was having an abdominal scan but the whole day I was asking the vet I work with a million and ten questions about it. She must have been so glad to see the back of me tonight! LOL

I thought twice about posting last night. I could imagine lits of eye rolling, and 'here she goes again'.
 
Nothing helpful to add, I just want to say that Amymay your threads about little Daisy warm my heart. She's a very lucky little puppy :).
 
non of us find it easy-I work at a vets but when my lurcher presents another serious injury I fall apart-I thought I had lost her after cruciate surgery and everyone one here that posted offered so much support it really helped

Amymay, I read your posts and you remind me so much of me :). I hope all goes well for you and your little one. My two are going for their review 18th of Feb. Little Kev, has a retained testicle so is going to be a bit of a prob. They just mean soo much to us don't they..? so trusting. Sending you lots of good wishes.

Nah, no eyes rolling from me on that one :)

The old boy has got a problem with his liver, or rather an inflammation of the bile ducts. He's going to be okay, I think. Next few weeks will tell more, hoping he'll continue to eat and get his drugs in to him.

Ah, bless you. That's so kind. She's a bloomin pain in the backside :D and is about to cost me another £400 in fencing, as she's decided our massive garden is boring - and has found a new way out, over a 6ft stone wall and banking agghhhh. But I adore her ♥♥

They creep into your heart and become part of your life so quickly. I freely admit I adore my lot. I wear my yard clothes first thing so I can have cuddles before work then get changed into smart stuff. My days off revolve around them and the horse. I currently have Bear on my knee. He's my baby.
