Hi I’m looking for advice for self care
My mare has a swollen fore leg possible from tripping in sandschool
A little heat which goes with ice boot/ cold hosing.. no apparent pain when examining and normal happy in herself!
No lameness on hard ground.. slight lameness on soft
Have treated with Bute and wrapping at night…
Any further advice!

Welcome to the forum

I'm afraid this isn't a time for self care of the horse. If you're in the UK, then Bute is a prescription only medicine which shouldn't be given without vet's advice. By buting her you have masked the symptoms for the vet to diagnose.

Her symptoms, worse on soft ground, are more likely to be of a soft tissue injury, which is also what would be expected from the incident you describe.

You need to call a vet to get the injury scanned, and meanwhile keep her on box rest so she doesn't make it any worse. It can be serious even with little lameness or swelling, especially as you have used bute.

I hope it turns out to be something minor.
