My horse is kept in Berkshire, Crowthorne to be exact, about 4 miles away from the surveillance area. We have 5 sheep and 2 goats at the yard. Am I ok to be hacking out as normal ??

Also, not that I will but out of interest, am I allowed to cross, whilst riding, into the surveillance area and then return to my yard ??

Am really worried about inadvertinately (sp?) making life even harder for farmers in the country by spreading this disgusting disease

Hope it makes some sense

Did not have horse at last outbreak !!

Sadly I was working for a large animal vet during the last outbreak and also owned horses where there were cattle. We all agreed that we wouldn't hack out. I think it is up to the individual to act responsibly - definitely don't cross into the exclusion/surveillance zone - and take all other precautions including disinfection at gateways etc.

During the last big outbreak of FMD my yard didn't hack out at all. Whilst there were no cases around by us we just felf that out of respect for the local farmers we shouldn't.
