I'v just spied a lovely pony that I may be interested in buying. The pony sounds really lovely although owner says she can sometimes nap when hacking out alone but says its more her just trying to see what she can get away with and gets on with it if she cant. Would this put you off? I'v ridden ponies/horses who have done this but its really not something that concerns me. I haven't seen this pony in the flesh yet(just pictures) but she's gorgeous and sounds exactly what i'm looking for and imo is a bargain. What next? I'v never had to do this for myself before. Lots of questions and thoughts running through my head. (Its the first time a horse/pony has got me all eek).
Any advice is very much appreciated.

It depends a) how brave you are, b) what she does when she naps and c) whether you would want to sell her on again... if she is a little pony it can be hard selling the slightly quirky ones, I ended up selling all my ponies to adults to get around the issue!

Nappy covers a wide spectrum from a slight reluctance/ needing to be told to get on with it to full on rearing, spinning, throwing-on-ground tantrums!

I'd say go and see and see what she actually does...

I would still go to see the Pony, If he is perfect in everyway apart form the napping issue. Napping is a behaviour that can be sorted, it will take a lot of work and patience from you though. Horses also behave different, with different riders on. So would be worth trying out.

If you decide to get the Horse, there are loads of people on here to give you helpful advice and tip on nappy Horses

Go and see. Some people's idea of napping is my idea of a little hesitation, others it's full blown rearing, spinning, bolting home! Also depends on how you feel about the pony - some horses do things which scare the heck out of me, but others do worse and it doesn't bother me. Heck if my highland had behaved the way my old cob did this morning he'd have worried me, but with J I just encourage him

What sort of pony is it?

Depends on what the napping involves. If it involves rearing, spinning and bolting for home, then I wouldn't even go and look. If it's something that a bit of encouragement sorts out then that's fine. Also depends on the type of horse doing the napping.
