Right need advice. Ive had my boy just over 2 months now, all is going well except for in canter. When I first got him he had a lovely calm canter, however the past couple of weeks he has started to really rush and not listen, change the leg randomly and start off on the wrong leg, all of which he never used to do. Not sure what it could be, would back pain do it, or could it be he has had a scare, his saddle slipped twice in canter, once causing me to fall off and once making my half loaner have to quickly jump off. Any ideas please

Def back pain and saddle fit from those little snippets of info - get both sorted before you do any damage to him or he does something serious to you because of the pain :)

If the saddle is slipping it probably doesn't fit properly, so is likely to be uncomfortable. I would get your saddle checked. Then you might be as well having his back checked as well.

The saddle should not be slipping, that needs addressing as it could be making his back sore or just worrying him.
I would get a saddler in and possibly a physio to check him but you need to get your vet to give permission for him to be treated.

His saddle was fitted when i first got him which was only two months ago, and then had saddler out again only a couple of weeks ago and he was happy with fit. Saddle slip happened on lesson, both me and half loan have different instructors, who said to invest in a anti slip pad as he is extremely round? I will get saddler out to check saddle again to check for any changes and will definitely get back person out to give him the once over x

A check of saddle and back would still be a good idea.

You have not had him long and 2 different riders both having different instructors could be having an effect on his confidence not every horse is going to cope well with this.

Sounds like a similar story to my share horse. He was going really nicely and well behaved then suddenly turned into luny bucking cob. As I wasn't riding him due to breakage ( not his fault) we were racking our brains as to why and were pointing the finger of blame at his owner who he's never been that well behaved for.. Anyhow turned out the tree in his saddle had broken and the saddle was also pinching his back hence the bucking and zooming off in canter. We've got a new saddle and he's moving much better but he learnt some mean tricks about dumping his rider in the meanwhile.
