I'm about to start feeding psyllium husks now the grass has all but disappeared, as a guard against sand colic. My mare is on a diet and her 2 feeds a day are just one cup of low-cal balancer and some carrots, plus some hay am & pm - she lives out 24/7. We are on sandy soil which is great with all this rain because the paddock looks fantastic but presents the worry about sand colic. Her feeds are dry - assuming she will eat it, do I just add the psyllium dry (I was going to do a cupful for 5 days once a month), or will I need to mix it with something wet - maybe speedy beet ? Any advice gratefully received :)

You'd need to read the instructions because if my memory serves me well the Psyllium works by being eaten quite dry but then expanding when it gets moist as it is being digested and then takes the sand from the stomach/gut/plumbing with it as it passes through???

Apologies for me using such technical terminology ☺️☺️☺️
