advice re Puppy feeding ??????

Was wondering if anyone has advice on feeding puppy / puppies???

Should puppy be fed x number of times a day ? Or should food be left down all day , dry kibble puppy food , soaked and then left for puppy to go back and forth when he is hungry ???

puppy is 12 weeks old , Border terrier .

any advice be great . xxxx
 
I was advised by the vet to put food down at specific times as it puts them in a routine, three times a day is good (little and often!) but twice should be okay by 12wks
 
Did pup come from the breeder with a diet sheet? Most breeders feed 3 or 4 times a day (soaked puppy kibble). I personally wouldn't leave food down all day as it will then become difficult re house training. The usual routine is feed, then take puppy outside to do its business. If you have recently got the pup don't be worried if he/she doesn't eat very well, they quite often go off their food at first in a new home.
 
I've just got a new puppy & similar to what MM said she came with a "puppy sales wallet" which contained what her diet is at the moment and advice on how much to feed & at what times etc.

My puppy was until I got her fed 4 times per day but at 9 weeks now breeder said she would be fine to go down to 3 feeds per day. We soak her biscuits (puppy kibble) quite a while before we feed it to her so that it's completely swollen before it hits her tummy.

We try & feed around 5-6 hours apart, so morning, lunchtime & dinnertime, she loves her grub & doesn't leave anything, I also have other dogs so always lift any food that isn't eaten immediately, I don't leave it sat down all day.
 
We fed our puppy three times a day at this age and did'nt leave any feed down, so she learnt to eat when we fed her, then after about 5 months we fed her twice a day and started to leave a small amount of crunchies down, and now she's 7 months old there are always crunchies down and she gets fed meat once a day, we have 5 other dogs so that's the easiest way for us to do it.
 
we fed are puppy from 10 weeks o 4 months 4 times a day from 4 months to 8months 3 times aday then went on to 2 times a day witch she is still on at 5 years old!
 
preferably feed what breeder was feeding and if you need to change it do it gradually. Personally give 3 feeds spaced throughout the day until about 5 months then 2 times per day. I always feed dry complete food such as James Wellbeloved or Burns. I never give adlib food
 
hey guys , thanks for the advice, thats what we are doing . Yeah pup had feed sheet , but he alwasy seems to be ravenous !!!! and is very food orientated and , we dont want him to get food issues and be a nipper later in life !!

its my grandmothers puppy.
