Advice re: saddle

Hello,

Sorry this is another request for advice on a saddle. I have had my new horse for 4/5 weeks now. He is a 15.3 irish cob (who is a little underweight - just coming out of winter) and has a very high wither.

Buying him left a very small budget for a saddle so armed with my limited budget, I paid for and had a thorowgood T6 wide cob saddle fitted by a professional saddle fitter.

Unfortunately, I am not entirely happy with it and I am not sure what to do! I feel the saddle tips me forwards and I am sitting more on my front 'bits' rather than my seat bones and it keeps throwing me out of balance. The saddle also sits quite low on his wither! I have even bought a Heather Moffat seat saver to see if that helps.

I don't know now what to do and to be perfectly honest it is putting me off riding my boy altogether.

Any advice appreciated.

I personaly dont like the thorowgood saddles, we used them at the riding school where I used to work and after a while the tree seemed to splay

. We sent about half of them back to thorowgoods and they replaced them but the new ones done the same after a while.
I felt that they tipped you forward too, they were awful trying to teach in as you could see the position they put the rider in and it is hard trying to get someone to correct their position if the saddle wont allow them too!!
In the end we slowly replaced all the saddles with leather ones or wintecs, which in my opinion are much better x.
 
your saddle is too wide and clearly does not fit - you need to get your fitter back out and get it refitted - however bear in mind your horse is poor - not many cobs have withers!!!!!! When he puts on condition he will widen out so if your saddle is replaced with a narrower one it will need replacing as your horse puts on condition. I would be looking to use a Prolite pad underneath to pad out the horse to allow him to muscle up then your saddle should fit better.
 
did your version come with the FISH inserts and the adjustable gullet? Sorry - there are a lot of versions around.

If so, it may be worthwhile putting in a thicker FISH now, to make the front of the saddle narrower. As your horse fills out and his muscle develops you can move to the thinner FISH.

Thorowgoods take about 3 weeks of consistent riding to bed down - therefore when they are first fitted they sit quite proud of the horse and you feel perched. The flocking then compacts and the saddle fits the horse - however in your case it sounds as though the saddle was fitted too wide to begin with.
 
Sounds like saddle is too wide so I'd get saddle fitter back ASAP. If he's good and values his reputation he'll sort it for you.
