i am thinking of getting another border collie(already have two)
the choices are;
1)a puppy by my bitch's dad x bitch related to my bitch's mum
(my collie is a star really easy to train but probably not a show quality bitch.)
the mum to be zoe

2)a puppy whose parents look more show quality and more of a chunky type-more what i want.
also more money.

i want to have a pet dog who will be trained well and could do a bit of low level obedience/agility/sheep training.

Having a chunky collie and a skinny collie myself, I have to say I ould have another chunky one. I like the look of number two. But then they all look nice and when they are puppies you tend to be spoilt for choice. My two were the last two left and i couldn't take one without the other!

i do also think the second dogs are in show poses as opposed to just lying in the grass, which would make them look better .they are £100 more which i know i only pay once is still £100!!

am on the waiting list of both at the moment but will have to take my name off one soon as i don't like to mess people about.

Neither! Get a basset!

Well, the parents of the second dog have had a lot of health testing done, which always scores major bonus points for me.

Do you know if Zoe has been hip scored? Do you know much about her, temperament wise?

yes the owner of the first bitch has had all those tests done and she has the pups eyes and hearing done.
i met the bitch today and she has a superb temperment.
know more about this bitch than the other in fact

just think that the other bitch has a better web site(professional)and am trying to not let it throw my decision.

i think that it is a close call

If you don't want to show then I would probably go with the first litter - they both seem like good breeders and I think you will end up with a good puppy from either .

However the second litter would be more 'correct' as far as fitting the breed standard and certainly is more likely to win in the show ring.

A difficult descision but only you know if having the chunkier type is worth the extra £100 to you - particularly if you simply want the pup as a pet

I personally prefer the slim small border collies which I feel are far more true to type.....like my old collie

.

I notice on the second dog that Mobella is in the breed lines - I used to have a collie with those lines and the dog was a bit of a nutter.....so much so that I would never go for another Border Collie with Aus/NZ lines again.

I much prefer the first- my type of collie!!!
We've bred both sorts and i really dont like the chunkier ones, i even think their personalties aren't that great. So definitely the FIRST !!!

Like my Dash-

lol, he jumps them everyday, believe me i've tried stopping him but he just won't when we go and shepherd the sheep. He clears them with ease, he hasn't touch one yet (touch wood).

Well Good Luck Horsenut, let us know when you've decided.....number 1, number 1, lol!!

My 2 childhood collies both used to jump over fences like this - within the same month both of them became hooked up on the barbed wire. The injuries were significantly horrific that I have never allowed barbed wire on any of my land and I've always discouraged my dogs from jumping any fences since then.

I'm not telling you what to do - I'm just letting you know that one day your dog will find he/she isn't as young as he/she used to be and it is possible that it will suffer like both of mine did.

have now seen both bitches and no 2 is stunning and now she has had a change of plan and been mated to a gorgeous stud dog i think she is the one.

i can still stay in the waiting list for no 1 so all's well that ends well as they say.

thanks everyone, just have to wait till jan for them to be born.
