hi need some advice before i am railroaded by my new vet in the morning. long story. why would my horse require xrays and nerve blocks if he has a swollen fetlock joint which he has been lame on for 9 days now and the swelling only came up today and he is on boxrest! would an ultrasound not be of more use?????

Not a vet - can't comment but just a thought - he has ruled out anything actually in the foot - like an abscess - because that can then also show up as a swelling? particularly as it has taken 9 days to come up - any chance your farrier could take off the shoe and have a look before going down the other route?

yep had farrier out twice in this time, defo no abscess. called vet and told receptionist the long story and next thing the vet wanted to do all this crap even a flexion test- humour me but isnt that to determine the level of lameness? sorry but he is def lame dont need a vet to tell me something i know. just cant understand why they just wont come out with the ultrasound-seems there is more money and waste of time to be had by xraying him.
