I am looking for a good steady alrounder that is not spooky and very sane.
i currently own a very complicated Arab and a Nutty Thoroughbred that i compete, and would like something to hack about on and maybe hunt in the winter, that is not going to send my blood pressure through the roof every time i get on.
Is there a particular breed that i maybe should look for?
I know what to avoid, but not sure what would be pretty damn certain to be sane as i know all breeds have their moments.
Any advice please?

Your last sentence is spot on really. All horses really are different. Breeds seem to get stereotypes - nutty TBs Vs ploddy cobs for example. I would suggest keeping your options open and going by the horse not its breed.

Good luck.x

What height and build are you?
Maybe something like a Welsh D or a Highland, or even Fell or Dales...but if you're tall, you might find they don't take up your leg.
Welsh D x TB is always a nice cross....as is Clydie x TB...

I personally would avoid welsh d's as they can be very quirky, I know I'm sterotyping, they can also be very strong, personally I would look for a cob cross.

Personally, I would steer clear of anything 'highly bred' - whatever breed it is!

I would go for one of those 'heinz 57' types.

Ditto those who said to avoid Welsh Ds in general, I have known a few and owned one who ruined my confidence. I now ride a nutty cob and a spooky Arab, along with all the "highly-strung" types at work (warmblood and TB eventers mostly) and have actually regained my confidence so I am not planning on going to view anything remotely Welsh D when I am looking again!
TBH you will probably find yourself looking at anything and everything breed-wise though! Go for a cob if you can stand Shils' comments

My welsh D is very arabby in her behaviour and attitude, I don't think she's the exception either. I love her that way, but perhaps you should look at a bigger native like Shils said, or an Irish cob. Friend had a D x tb thats 100% in every way, also heard of one thats a nutter. My anglo was the safest hack I ever had, there was really nothing we couldn't do. Perfect horse. But then the majority of anglos I know appart from him are fruit loops..

Quite like the sound of a Dales,
Don't like Highlands and have got a 14mth old D already,
Was wondering about an ID as i need something 15.3 upwards.

We have a Welsh cross Shire baby and he's just wonderful, very people orientated, would rather be with you than the herd, but will go to them if you tell him to! He's very odd like that in many respects! 2 yrs old 15hh an never been coltish, now gelded and learning well! As for my mare she's welsh X anglo-arab/cob and a nice ride, looking at things and snorting is about her limit of spooking! So thats's where my recommendation came from!

All the horses I have had have been completly safe in the heaviest of traffic and out hunting. The first was a 14.2 skewbald Irish Cob, The second a 14.1 Fell X Dales x something or other, the third was a 16.2 shire x thoroughbred and then a pure 14.3 Welsh Section D cob.

I would suggest that it is temprement you are going for.
