I've got many ideas going on, but want to know for all of you who have bred and got youngstock, what feed works best to give to a weanling. Baring in mind this a pony weanling, not a TB or such like.
Ad lib hay will be fed from the floor while she is kept in for her first week, and 2 feeds of? - Good idea?
I feel this is a subject that I need to learn more about!!

To be honest, add lib hay fed from the floor will be plenty adequate to begin with. You can always put a dengie (or similar) stable lick in there for her to get a few vits and mins from too.

I would think, unless her dam has been bucket fed since having her, the concept of eating from a bucket will be completely alien to her so she probably won't have any of it to begin with!! just get her a simple chaff like hi-fi lite and possibly some high fibre cubes and introduce slowly... then just feed this over winter with speedi beet added if nec. no need for stud feeds / balancers etc at all.

bare in mind my gelding who is rising three and 16.3hh survives on add lib hay and then a bucket with a handfull of hi-fi and a handful of nuts and then about half a scoop of speedi-beet twice a day in the worst of winter and he looks fab! I just add some equivite to this for his vits and mins. so a pony will need very little at all.
