“I’m looking for some advice please. I am an 18 year old finishing school next year. I want to become a producer of show/dressage horses. I currently compete Connemaras in showing and have lots of experience breaking and riding young horses and stallions. I would really like to move into warmbloods now though and focus more on dressage. My question is what steps should I take now to start my career? I have some connemaras that I could sell to buy a young horse. I was thinking that I could find a working student position on a dressage yard and train there with my own young horse. Any advice is welcome. Thank you”

I would suggest you don't buy a young horse until you have found a working student position and settled in for a couple of months. Best to sell the ponies now and put the money in a savings account until you are secure I a job, you may find you have so much opportunity to train horses in the course of your work you don't have the time/energy for your own.
