Hi,

Im trying to sell one of my 2yo and advertised her last week. Have had quite alot of calls and have 2 people come see her. 1 was unsuitable and the other said they wanted her but never called back.

So then sent pics to a lady whos v far away. She liked all the photos so I talked to her, I really liked her on the phone, she asked for videos, I sent her standing ones and one of her lunging (for about a min for the first time ever!!)

She then called today and said she would like to buy her based on that, so having not seen her in real life. Her point is that its a 4 hour journey (one way) just to pat a 2 yo and I can sort of see her point, its not like she can try her.

She gave me references (who I called and all seemed well) showed me her place on google maps (which looks lovely) She asked if she could pay me to bring her and that she was happy to send a cheque that I could wait to clear then bring my horse to her. She said we could have it written in that I would have first refusal if she wanted to sell her (for the same price if in the next few months, which she really doubted would happen) She has her own yard/farm and teaches riding.

Has anyone ever sold a horse to a person that hasnt met them in real life?

Its a bit scary. I have been 100% honest about Franks to anyone that has emailed me and she is SOOOOO easy for a baby horse that I wouldnt be to fussed about most sensible people having her.

Argh what to do................

Vicki

The buyer sounds good in all respects, however, if you sell a horse that the buyer doesn't bother to view, then legally you as the seller take on much more responsibility.
That means that she would have a better case for sending it back to you if she believes you misrepresented it at sale.
If I were you, I'd try to persuade her to have it vetted (by independent vets) as this should be useful to her, and protect you from legalities.
S :D

Personally I'd be a bit worried. I can see her point but still if she was really interested surely she'd want to come and see her first? But I suppose you will meet her and see her yard etc when you drop her off. Definately wait till the cheque has completely cleared though!
How does she know your not going to run off with her chq and not deliver the horse though? As she'd have to send the chq before you sent the reciept? I'm quite wary when buying horse/ horseboxes though after someone pocketed my deposit.

I would go for it she sounds really genuine :)
She must trust you to send a cheque before having her.
I have bought 3 from people I had never met. One was JM07. and then a breeder from Wales, never had a problem :D
I hope the sale goes well x

It depends on how carefully you want to vet the home that she is going to. Financially you won't have a complaint as you will have the money before delivering her so it shouldn't be a problem. But if you want to be really sure of the home she is going to...

Are there any 'independent' references for the buyer? - i.e. a qualified instructor / judge who knows her? Otherwise any numbers she gives you could just be her friends. Maybe ask on HHO if anyone knows of her?!

I suppose if you are delivering your filly you get to see the yard and meet the buyer at the time. It's drastic and a waste of time but you could load her up again and take her home if you're not happy.

What would I do...? Take the offer, I think. It's not a good seller's market.

Such a shame, theres always a scum bag that has to put people off trusting others. I sent the whole amount for the 2 sec A's that came together, then Gimley I sent a deposit and picked him up a week or 2 later.

Thanks everyone.

I just spoke to her and she said she wasnt keen on getting her vetted as I only advertised her for 1000. I have the vet check form from when I brought her.

I think I would take her and then if it wasnt a nice place just take her back home again. I would have to take the cash too though if I had already banked her cheque.

She said it would be a trust thing to send me the money first, she said she would rather be the trusting one, rather than me trusting that shes def going to want frankie when I have driven her there.

One of her pupils have got LOADS of videos on youtube of her yard and it looks really nice.

She does sound lovely, we really get along and Im normally a pretty good judge of character......maybe!
