The yard I have recently moved to has extremely stoney ground. The paddocks the horses are turned out in have stones appearing all over them and as fast as you remove them, new ones appear. Also, all the tracks leading to all the rides are stoney. My TB mare has been sore for the past 10 days with a bruised front sole she got when turned out; and although sound now, really does feel pottery when being ridden or lead on the stoney tracks. She's fine on the soft grass and muddy ground. Does anyone have any suggestions to make things more comfortable for her. Keratex to the sole? Hoof pads? Boots over her shoes?

Thumper really struggles with stoney ground and I do consider very carefully the sort of ground that I ride him on.

I started feeding black sun flower seeds about 6 weeks ago. And whilst he still says "ouch" ocassionally - he's not saying it anywhere nearly as much as he used to. Plus it gives the coat the most amazing gleam......

Well I started feeding them after reading about them on here. People seem to have been feeding them with great results for improving the condition of the hoof. So I thought I'd give it a go.

I buy mine at the local feed merchants - a very large sack costs £13. Or you can buy smaller bags for around £6.00. You feed them whole, and I feed half a mug twice a day. People feed up to a mug full per feed.

Ask your farrier if he could fit leather soles under the shoes. Or whatever is the modern equivalent.

hoof pads under her shoes will provide instant relief where as you can wait months for suppliaments to work.

Please ring your farrier and ask him what he thinks and give him time to order them

put a pair of socks on her until you get over the stoney bits and to harden her hoofs and soles up apply eucolyptus oil for a week or 2 twice daily!
