Advice with new horse

Hi,

Hoping for some advice and tip's with my new mare, i brought her back in March where she had come from Ireland and just hunted and we think may of had a bit of showjumping done with her.
Now she is quite green but i'm slowly getting there her flat work is coming along lovely and cross country she loves its the showjumping....
As soon as she see's a fence she get's herself in a tizz - bunch's up - crosses jaw - leaps towards the fences (bit hell raising at times :eek:), Now she is very brave i'm only starting of small, her doubles are the worse where she jumps with such power she landing so far into the double and then can't put any stride in to get out of 2nd part and she ends up paddling it or knocking it down......we are trying different bit's as she's not overly strong just over sensitive with stuff but again any suggestions on bits?
Can any one give me some help or tips on how i can try improve this.?

I'd get some lessons. Lots of small gridwork and pole exercises, get her confident over the lower stuff first before building up the jumps. Could put placing poles before and after the fence to give her a guide of where to take off and land.

If she is sensitive, I wouldn't want to be putting a stronger bit in her mouth. But if she crosses her jaw a grackle may help??
 
i've got her in a french link snaffle which she seems to like...i did put a grackle on her but made her worse like she was wanted to resist it, I have just put a flash on her which has slightly improved as shes not fighting to much....I just don't no what has happened or been really done with her in Ireland apart from being hunted..
 
I am far from an expert but what I used to do with one on mine that used to rush fences was to take her into them in a nice steady trot and then if she tried to tank off i would circle her away until she had a nice steady trot and then approach the fence again repeating that process until she was approaching the fences steadily and calmly. Also, you may not do this but make sure your not tensing up and shortening up your reins on the approach to a jump because that will most likely wind her up more. Good luck!

she could very well be jumping big because despite being brave she is also afraid!! So I also agree with the others and say poles on ground to start with and then a pole before the jump to help her know where to take off

Also can you lunge her over some small poles, its amazing how much confidence this gives them
