Ok so i have a tb mare who is unbelievably fussy with the contact and with lessons form the most wonderful listed BD judge and much hard work she is improved loads.

She is ridden in a flexi mouth full cheek snaffle and recently has been difficult in the contact.

We have missed lessons for 6 weeks due to frozen school then a blip with a swollen leg and i have combined training sat and she was a moo bag today to ride.

I havent schooled much and she has had a week off but she refused to work into a contact consistantly. I tried to just ride forwards and hold my contact but she either nose poke or leaned on it so i thought more leg. More leg just made her run off and so out came the pelham ( same mouth piece but with 2 reins ). She was a little tense at first in trot but rexaled and took the contact and i got some lovely work in a nice frame and forward.

She can draw her tounge back and opens her mouth at times so last year went into a flash on inst advise.

So anyway i text my inst and asked what she thought about trying a sprenger in maybe a hanging cheek to apply a little poll pressure or the full cheek.

I have found this site that does a 14 day hire service

http://www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/HiringABit.aspx

My girl is very sharp at times and when she doesnt like a bit its very obvious.

Can anyone give me advise as to if they think the sprenger will suit and how good the spregner bits are.

Also what is the difference between the kk and the dynamic?

Yes im doing the CT there sat- prelim 13 and 2ft6 jumping.

Booked an emergency lesson for thursday and brought it forward a week so we can work on her lack of submission ( nothing new there lol )

Are you going toomanyhorses?

yep - ex racers first show eekk!!!!another girl from my yard is in the prelim with him and I am in the novice - not really sure what I am letting myself in for - ill be the one on the big chestnut waving at everyone and showing them what a nice belly he has!!!!

My horse does that too, she waved at the judge in the last dressage we did.

Mine is a ex racer but at 15 and owned by me for 5 years you think she would know better.

Hence me trying hard to find the right bit for her... im very tempeted to order the full cheek dynamic sprenger but at 135.00 is such a lot but at least i can send it back if she doesnt like it less the 15.00 hire charge and then try the hanging cheek.

Also i meant to ask do sprenger bits come up true to size?

would deffo go for the hire when buying the bit is soooo expensive :0 not sure if they do it for all bits but I have hired a myler from frogpool before and paid about £15 which they take off the price of the bit if you buy

Frogpool do bit hire but only on mylers which i tried and she hated - continual head tossing and messing about untill the bridle came off.

Whats your first name and ill look out for you sat.. ill be on the horsey in my sig probably most eailty noticed running around with her darn head in the air

my name is jennie and the horse is hermitage court but maybe being called some other stuff as well depending on his mood!!!! hope all goes well for you - if not we can go and stand with our head in the corner together!!

I did think about the nule schule but they lozenge looks smaller and set at a different angle to the sprenger?

Id be willing to try one tho.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get the sprenger dynamic in the full cheek and also the nule schule hanging cheek and see if she likes any of them and that way i can send one of both back?

Whats the difference between these brands?

I saw that one on ebay but i think it will go up lots as it still had 2 days left on it.

I don't have an ex-racer, but I do have a coloured native who THINKS she is an ex-racer..

The neue schule version of the first bit is about £30 cheaper, brand new. I've got it for star and it's fab. Does everything that they saay the Sprenger version will do.

Hi chris lol.

She has a little mouth and takes a 5inch bit but i could prob get away with 5 1/4.

I have ordered a hanging cheek neue schule from shop for bits on a 30 day trial to try but im still wanting to try a full cheek sprenger ( pref the dynamic ) or possibly a full cheek neue schule.

I rode her yesterday in a friends hanging cheek french link with a swivel for the link to rotate and i was able to keep her more together and she didnt lean on it and seemed to accept it well but i still feel the lozenge will be better for a horse that will draw back its tounge.

All your experiences and feedback is much appreciated.

My current bit has served a wonderful purpouse but i think now she has advanced a little bit and im asking more she is using the soft bit to her advantage a little too much!
