Hey just wanting some advise. Sorry about all the questions. When do people start offering grass livery? How much is it? How much space does your horse get? Do you still get use of a stable? Can you use all facilities on the yard or is everything extra. Are you a DIY livery then in summer turn to grass livery or do you move on in the summer just for grass livery? Do you sign a contract? if you go on holiday do you put ur horse on full livery or does someone check on ur horse and if so how much do they charge. When do people stop grass livery in winter?

Thanks if you can answer any or all questions.

Many yards start offering 24 hour turnout during the grazing season, April/May until November, sometimes later. Each yard is different. Those on DIY would continue to pay for a stable even when the horses are out, although I've known some yards to offer summer grass livery when they are full as a tempory arrangement.

If you have all year grass livery on a yard with facilities, you could hire a stable if your horse requires box rest. Many yards will allow you to use all the facilities on grass livery rates, though some will charge extra.

If you go on holiday, you would need to make arrangements for your horse to be checked and /or fed, either with the YO or a friend.

I have never been asked to sign a contract at any yard, but again, some yards do.

Regarding space for grazing, -how long is a piece of string ? Some horses may be on 25 acres while others in separate paddocks live out all summer on less than a acre.

I paid £10 p/w plus £2.50 for a stable for all year grass livery. New yard charges £25 p/w for summer turnout and the same in winter when stabled at night.

I'm in Surrey, our grass livery is £270 a month and is all year round. For this we get fences and fields maintained, herd grazing, hay out all year (on sand), tie up in the yard, tack room and feed storage space, sandschool and amazing hacking. I check my pony and feed, change rugs every day. If I'm away I share checks etc with other grass liveries.

I am in Herts and I pay £140 a month and that includes living out all year round in a huge field with I think there are about 13 in the herd and there is over 20 acres. I have my own stable and we have tack room, feed room, hay barn and outdoor school.

We pay extra in the winter when they need hay in the field of £1 per day. It is very lovely and I am very lucky to have this sort of set up.

However only good doer ponies and small cobs can live out as YO likes everyone to have the same feeding needs, eg not much!

When do people start offering grass livery?
Grazing livery is available all year round at my yard.
How much is it?
We pay £13 a week.
How much space does your horse get?
Grass livery is either on a large (5-10 acre?) field with a small herd or in individual paddocks.
Do you still get use of a stable?
No, because you aren't paying for a stable. You can pay for livery including a stable for £20 a week which includes 24/7 turnout if you want it.
Can you use all facilities on the yard or is everything extra.
Yes.
Are you a DIY livery then in summer turn to grass livery or do you move on in the summer just for grass livery?
No because if you give up your stable it may be taken up by someone else if you're not paying for it. I pay for DIY all year round including a stable but my horse can live out/in whenever i choose.
Do you sign a contract?
Yes
If you go on holiday do you put ur horse on full livery or does someone check on ur horse and if so how much do they charge?
About £3 per day.

Grass livery tends to only come up once in a blue moon around here. It took me years to find a place.
I pay <£100 a month.
My horse has access to about 1 acre, although it's in individual smaller paddocks & rotated frequently.
No use of stable.
No facilities really, grass schooling area when the ground is suitable.
Yes I signed a contract.
YO feeds, checks, poo picks & changes rugs for me as part of the deal.

Hope that helps.

Hey guys all this information is great, I'm assuming in general if stables are available then you pay for DIY to be able to keep them for use in winter.

If anyone else can answer the above questions then that will be fab :)

I am on grass livery which is £110 PCM which gives me access to the same facilities as those on full (tack room/indoor/outdoor). I do not have access to a stable but there is a shed that we can tie up in to groom etc which is fine and all I need.

When I had to keep my horse in for a week over winter when she was lame we rigged up an area in that shed for her (and her field mate who would not stay out on her own). Had there been a free stable in the yard I could have used that but they were all full so this was a bit of a stop gap measure. Paid the full livery rate for the time she was in.

Those on full livery at my yard pay the same amount throughout the year with their horses being stabled over winter and on 24hr turnout over summer, it works out easier for them knowing they are paying the same each month.

Hey just wanting some advise. Sorry about all the questions.

When do people start offering grass livery? How much is it? How much space does your horse get? - Mine is all year round, around 7/8 acres between an average of 3-5 ponies. Its £15 a week which is very cheap here in Herts.

Do you still get use of a stable? No - as above I rent a field off the owner who keeps his there too. No stables but there is a field shelter and lots of natural shelter

Can you use all facilities on the yard or is everything extra. - We don't have any, just a little area to tie up and store feed - works for me!

Are you a DIY livery then in summer turn to grass livery or do you move on in the summer just for grass livery? No all year around

Do you sign a contract? No

if you go on holiday do you put ur horse on full livery or does someone check on ur horse and if so how much do they charge. I don't go away much, but the field owner visits the horses twice a day and I would pay a friend/groom to check daily if I went away.

When do people stop grass livery in winter? Ours is all year around.

Yes there are only two liveries at our yard allowed to keep their boxes and do grass livery in the summer and they pay thier diy rate all year round.
