I have a 15 month old filly who has shown all 4 legs filled tonight, the rears slightly worse than the fronts, also a bit "pouchy" just below the larynx.
I have had the vet out as I suspected Lymphangitis but couldnt get my usual vet as he is away.
Vet has said yes Lymphangitis and has told me to give her Bute, one sachet morning and night for 4 days??

I am sorry if I sound like a doubting person but in the past I have always been given antibi's and another jab for this (steroid?)

Am I just worrying for no reason or should I be getting somebody else out to take a look.

strange, whats her reaction when you press up into her groin? whats her temperature? how lame is she?

typical treatment for lympangitis is a cocktail of nsaids/antibiotics/steriods.

Thanks so much for replying, I've just got back inside.
She seems absolutely fine in herself, eating normal and poos normal, Gums plenty of colour. Not lame whatsoever,
Vet listened to gut, didn't take temp? I got my thermometer out after he had left and it was broken

I did laugh actually as he was tapping her hooves with the hoof testers??? He didn't see her walk or move whatsoever?
I have given her the Bute (not impressed with that) and introduced her to a hosepipe

After "piaffe" for about 20 mins we managed to get the fronts done, she was good - just a bit

There was lots of heat in the legs.
I have left her out so she can keep things moving.

I'll see if there is any improvement overnight, will check her before I go to bed though.
Poor little mite, she looks like an old nag!

Has your horse had it?
Sorry if I sound like a worrying drama queen it is just that I didnt seem to get the normal treatment I have been given for it before and didnt trust the vet on this occasion

While shes not lame it is not sounding like lymphangitis hun.
Thats one of the first signs of lymphangitis, the inability to bear weight on the effected limb/s.

Could really do with doing her temperature as if she is feverish she needs the vet.

I think keeping her out will be the best plan of action.
Give her the bute and see what shes like in the morning, If she goes lame then Id call the vet out again.

Ted suffered for many years with lymphangitis, and was sadly put to sleep in May following a seriously bad run of it, which was way too close to the previous bout and he had had enough. Ive delt with this condition for two horrendous years and wouldnt wish it any any horse.
 
Oh thats good to know, thanks for that. No she definately isn't lame.
If she looking the same or worse by morning will give another vet a ring.

Ripped me apart. He was my boy. Past of my life, and watching him deteriotate was horrid. I know I did the right thing, Ive never felt guilty about it, and the look of percefulness he had on his face made me reaslise the pain hed been in.

This will sound like a silly question but have you fed something you don't normally feed? I started feeding Biotin to my boy once and after about 4 days all 4 legs were suddenly the size of tree trunks!
Didn't believe that it could be the Biotin but took him off it anyway and the legs went back to normal fairly quickly!

The only thing difference is they are being grazed on a paddock that I dont usually graze so I have taken them off it and are on one of their usual ones.
I would definately say it is an allergy thing as she is a bit "pouchy" as well and has a few little lumps about her at the moment.
Have picked up a bottle of Penstrep from the vets and she is having the bute as well so hopefully will see a difference.
Have rung my other vet and she said if there is no improvement by tomorrow she will come out but while there is still some definition in the fetlock joints and she is mobile it isnt too much of a worry.

I too would have expected(well I wouldn't ahve expected, just ordered) Dexadreson (+ bute) - it is a much better anti inflammatory. Plus antibiotics.
TBH, with all 4 legs up I would doubt lymphangitis and would suspect a reaction to something.
