Hi,

My foal as recently caught lice from a horse at my yard, i have powdered him using Gold Label louse powder for 5 days! (to no effect!!)

Yesterday i bathed his mane back and tail with Dermoline Insecticidal shampoo and today they still seem to be moving!!! its driving me mad!!

Is there anything i can get that will just get rid straight away?
Or is it a constant battle for weeks?!

I cant bath him properly all over as he was gelded only 3 days ago and i have to keep the wound dry.

Any advise would be so much appreciated!!!

Thanks!!

My vet told me that due to the dreaded EU regulations, louse powder is now about as effective as talcum powder as they are no longer allowed to use the ingredient that actually made it effective!

Deosect and Coopers are very effective and if that doesn't work I would be having a word with your vet.

The pour on stuff is deosect. It's not licenced for horses but the royal vet college recommended it for mine. Small tin lasts for literally years (you dilute massively and wipe on, excellent for fly spray, in dry weather lasts for several weeks between applications). Do a patch test first and wear gloves.
NB you can buy it on the web

Deosect is licensed for horses. You might have to ask other yard users/herd mate owners to check and treat their horses as well to prevent re infestation.

My Coopers as arrived today so going to put that on him tonight i have advised the others on the yard, but its not too bad i have private fields for my horses now.

Thanks

Zoe
