I keep treats in my pocket. Just focus on where you want to go and she'll pick up on this. She wont want to leave pals - I give my boy scratches and blow into his nose to bond lol!

Have you got a friend to help you? Treats are a great idea, but can cause a rather cheeky horse especially if they are young (trust me been there done that haha!!).

If you have a friend to help over a matter of days or weeks, depending on how fast she learns, get your mare to walk out in front of her, then beside her, then behind her, and behind her further away... UNTIL you can walk out your young lass without having to touch your mare.

Remember to award with lots of attention, strokes and love!

my bwb was like this, and my instructor said it was the start of nappy behaviour and I just had to be really firm with him, and get stroppy if necessary. It only took a few days of carrying a schooling whip when I caught him for him to stop being awkward about leaving his friends. He turned out to be much the same when he was ridden too! I'm not suggesting you beat him, but a tap behind you whilst being really positive about where you want to go should do the trick!
