I thought i would combine two things into one post.

Firstly have got the farrier coming on the 22nd of this month. I have a horse trial on the 24th of the next month so im questioning over having stud holes put in. The only reason i would have them put in is becasue the weather is so unpredictable at the moment i dont want to end up having a horse on the day who is sliding all over the place. But im not really sure. As i havnt got another event actual booked until early october and by that time he will have been shod again so im not sure what to do on the stud/shoeing side of things. . .any opinions would be great.

On to the spurs. I have got this horse trial in august and i have just realised i cant take a whip in so. . .my first thought was spurs. . .? I am not going to say i have ridden in them before as i havnt but if i used them i would have some lessons in them. But i dont want to use them for the wrong reason.

On the run up to the trial i have got plenty of little local shows to go to which i can try them out and basically see how he might go in them aswell as schooling at home. . but this is something im not sure on so i was just wondering what people thought would be a good thing to do. Would it be an idea just to buy a pair and have some lessons and see what happens. . ?

Thanks

studs would definately be a good idea, with not knowing what the ground will be like, and theyre great for that extra support. and you say you do local shows too, i personally always have studs in at local shows, as they tend not to always have perfect ground, and better to be safe than sorry!

and gives spurs a go. try them in a lesson first, and buy a really small pair, if they dont do the job then go slightly bigger! if they dont work out, then you havent lost anything!:)

Ye i think it might be a good idea to be better safe than sorry

I would speak to an instructor before buying spurs, there are a variety of spurs out there and the instructor will be ebst to advise you which are most suitable for your style of riding and how sensitive your horse is. No point in wasting money on spurs that won't be suitable, it's almost a complicated as bitting
