I borrowed one of these yesterday, and just for once he didn't pull horrible faces and it fastened up very easily,

Just wanted to know other peoples thoughts before I buy one.

I used to use one and got on great with it to start with. However, after a while I found it kind of scrunched up instead of lying flat on the horse and was pinching him. I bought a nice leather one with elastic at both ends and it's been brill.

I found it quite narrow and my mare started biting when having her girth done up, had to swap it for a Wintec one and she is much happier now.

I have used one in the past but like jumpthemoon it started to crinkle and became narrower and narrower so he started pulling faces when I did it up. Now bought a thorogood one and it's holding up well. So good but not a long term investment - though I didn't try ironing it to flatten it back out again come to think of it.

If a girth strap brakes on a conventional girth the other strap will hold it, with a humane girth the whole thing pulls through. Trust me you will only have to end up on your back once to never use one again.

I don't like them. It always worries me that if a girth strap did break then the girth would go very slack immediately, likewise if I fumbled tightening the girth when I was on board.

If you do get one then they have a wrong & right way round - run your finger along the girth edges & you'll find one is smooth & one's rough. Make sure you put the smooth edge towards the elbow.

I have had mine for years and never encountered the scrunching problem - I really rate them

[/ QUOTE ] They are great especially for sensitive or chubby horses and ponies.

Me too - I've used nothing else for 10 years on 3 horses; they're especially good for horses that prefer having the girth done up very gradually.

I have used the material ones and theyy do scrunch and wrinkle but I've found gell padded ones with waffle weave and they're fantastic and wider for more comfort too. Got mine on the Dobbin website.

I did love mine but....... the other day I was about to go for a gallop and tried to do my girth up and she started playing up and then i lost the strap through the buckle and I had to jump of pretty quick.

Mmmm, didn't think about what would happen if the straps broke.
Michelle73 , thanks I'll have a look on 4dobbin website.
