Anyone who reads this SI might find it unrealistic. If there is an outbreak in the New Forest a part of England where it is likely as the spread will follow the spread of Schellenbergs disease which has similar vectors . The horses that could not be caught would be shot the idea of numbers of men with rifles running around the New Forest shooting horses followed by the press trying to get the most sensational picture is unbelievable.
The most important thing is to spot and stop the disease as soon as possible as it takes 7 to 10 days to develop you are also losing time and there is nowhere in the legislation whic says which test you would use and which labs you have to go to as virus seperation takes days and RT-qPCR takes hours.
