My mind has gone completely blank and my heart is ruling my head! We've only seen him once and my daughter is in love with him and I must say he seemed perfect. We've said we want him and please don't advertise him which they were about to do. I've arranged for him to be brought to my yard on SAt so YO (who I trust) and friend can have a look at him and we can see what he is like in unfamiliar surroundings in a school.

What else do I need to do?? I presume the vetting should take place at their yard not mine, do I need to be there??

It's a bit like being in love I don't think I am making rational decisions :D

If you like him that much then put a small deposit down to secure him, in writing say deposit subject to sucessful vetting and professionals approval. To be fair to the owner it's a lot to ask to keep hold of her pony with no commitment to her as if you don't like him on the 2nd viewing she may well have turned away someone who does want him..

How exciting :-)

Could you try & speak to a trainer or PC DC to get a reference for him? It is very easy to fall in love with these ponies, but important to do ALL the checks & due diligence. You will be trusting him with your daughter & while no pony is 100% safe (despite whatever the ads may say!) some are definitely safer & more genuine than others.

What's his background, age & history like?

You MUST be there at the vetting & use your own vet or someone that he recommends.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Yes Luci I did think of that, but its only been a week between viewings and we do know each other which helps, if Saturday goes well we'll talk about deposit providing successful vetting of course.

I have spoken to trainer who is lovely and I trust her. DC was a bit dubious as girl hasn't done much with him - this is because she is a bit nervous and away at boarding school (he's been schooled and hacked 3 x a week while she's away). Daughter hacked him briefly and he was a good boy, 13 year old ownder hacks him alone and does everythign with him on her own. Think DC's reservations are that he is not hugely competitive rather than unsafe!

I would tell her that now. Just shows how genuine you are. I bought a horse out of a dealer I liked, put a deposit on him and vetted next day. Following weekend was one very upset woman who had assumed the horse would still be there as she had liked him so much.

And hope it all goes well on Saturday....!
