Hi everyone
.
I posted a while ago when my horse got a hoof abscess, its becoming a little ongoing .
currently where Im at is that horse appears to be sound after the second occurance.
but . there is a small hole where it was pared away to allow the pus to drain. what do you all use to keep dirt from getting back in? he has been wearing dry poultice's for about the last week and is getting really difficult to re wrap the hoof.
He is paddocked outside and I was told to avoid hoof poultice boots as they may twist when he is running around in his paddock and cause more damage, also it was recommended to allow the hoof to air, to aid growth.
so Ive found a product called "hoofstick" which is a waxy type of stuff that you can ply into the hole, or there is Tuffrock and Stockholm tar . (Im in Australia so assuming these are the same names you have for your products ?)
Im repacking with the hoofstick every day, morning and night and standing him in a bucket of water each afternoon to give it a really good clean (before applying the hoofstick)
so far it seams to be going ok, but Id like to hear what else you guys do.
Thanks
