I reported on here on saturday that my poor boy had maggots in his frog (eeewww!)

On Sunday it looked nice and clear until I purple sprayed and then a few more little wiggleys came out :-(

Last night it was clear. I hibiscrubed as he'd been in for a few hours and had wee soaked shavings packed in his foot. (syringed with warm hibiscrub water then stuck his foot in the hibiscrub bowl just to make sure it was well washed) Once dry I purple sprayed (foot master plus violet spray). No wiggleys to be found....... :-)

Sooo, my question is - can I expect to see any more? Do they re-occur in the same place and what should I be looking out for now? How long has to pass to be sure they've completely gone?

I'm scared !!!!!!! :-/

Horse on our yard had them last year. She treated hers the same as you have and had no after effects. Farrier was good to advise her so maybe give yours a ring. Nasty little things. Our Farrier said it can happen when for eg they are laid out in the field and a fly lays eggs in a deep frog. Just one of those things. I wouldnt worry too much about it. One benefit is that they eat away any nasty bits of the frog and may prevent things such as thrush.

We had this with one of the horses on the yard and the farrier said the same to us about its very easy for a fly to lay eggs deep in a crack in the frog. He told us to use hydrogen peroxide, we syringed this onto the frog neat, no chance the wiggly's could survive that and a good way to kill them all! The mare had no problems after the syringing. We never acutally had any wiggly's coming out when syringing it though as the farrier had already got them all out. I am sure your boy will be fine!

When the flies lay their eggs, they are tiny white things, generally in a cluster, almost like shavings dust......as I said on your last thread, I really wouldnt worry too much.....continue with the general foot care that you would normally, but sometimes you can't help a small amount of thrush, and the maggots will eat the nasty tissue and then go....they dont eat healthy tissue, so it actually helps in getting rid of the thrush!
