My mare had some time off last winter, and came back into work very stiff. Due to this stiffness she began to carry herself a little awkwardly. Unfortunately a lot of things were changing at the time (moved yards, found a sharer, etc) so I put her awkwardness while schooling down to the changes in routine rather than get her checked out.
Eventually she was getting worse not better and I called the physio, who treated some tightness around her back end. Immediately noticed a difference out hacking, she felt freer and once again felt even on both trot diagonals, as opposed to having a weaker side. She had a second treatment where she was found to be in much better shape and had a little work done on her back end again. A month on from this her schooling is falling back into place and she is beginning to muscle up correctly again so I am very happy. Has also been much happier in her mouth, which was always suspect before.
Depends how good your physio is and what was wrong! I usually call mine out when I have a specific problem, never had her out just for a general nice massage for him. So in that sense, yes I notice a difference because the problem will go away. Eg, he started bucking so had her out, bucking stop because she dealt with the soreness. She's coming out tomorrow as mine has pulled something being stupid at a ODE recently. He's just a bit stiff, nothing major, but I expect the stiffness on the left rein (where it is showing up, as he is sore on the right side) to go away.
Yes, have had the physio out a few times for muscle tightness/soreness and have noticed a difference afterwards. He is a bit weaker on his right side and if he's getting tight/sore, tends to 'scrunch up' if that makes sense and less willing to round and step out properly - he's always much better afterwards (and my physio has given me some exercises to build up his right side)
I sent my boy away to be re-schooled last year (long story) but he had the physio out to him. I was shocked when I was told he was going around as if his legs were tied together. He had kept going, no bother. I had not had him that long before I sent him away.
Anyway after he was fixed, his movement was fantastic!
He is now checked say every 6 months, just make sure his is ok. he had suffered from a rotated hip.
His muscle has developed & he is using himself properly, so thumbs up to registered physios!!!!!
I had the physio out to my old horse who was reluctant to go forwards, threatening to buck.He had a problem in his pelvis and in his poll. They came out quickly as he was in obvious discomfort.Immediately after treatment he felt much better in himself and went and had a good roll which he had not done before he was injured.
I had the physio and the chiro out to my horse last week as he was reluctant to go on the right lead canter and would often buck when asked to canter. On treatment he had problems with scar tissue from an old injury to his left pelvis and also left poll and wither on the right hand side. It was also noted that he needed his teeth done(which had been done 6months previously by the vet) I started working him the next day in brisk walk hacks as told to do so by the physio and the difference in his stride was instant.I haven't progressed onto canter yet but the difference so far is very noticeable in his whole demeanour.
