After worming.....?

If you are finding worms dead in the poo then your horse had worms and the wormer has done it's job and killed them. Maybe wait a few weeks and then do a worm count so you know wether the wormer has killed all the worms your horse had. Hope this helps :)

Thanks Rachel, Yes they are dead Tapeworms and what I think are threadworms. Wasn't sure whether to treat with a digestive supplement to regulate the stomach again. Thought I'd treat her again in a months time with Equimax and do a worm count 2 weeks after that but this is my first thoughts and wondered what others did?

Are you sure you have identified the worms? It is fairly unusual to see worms unless your horse is really wormy, like a rescue case, or unless the worms are pinworm.

Pinworm look like little white beansprouts with one end pointy. They are extremely common and difficult to eradicate. Although they look unpleasant they are not a major health hazard like 'proper' horse worms.

Of course you might have seen other worms, it is certainly possible, but just my thoughts to try to help.

Thanks for the reply - definately 4 tapeworms approx 1.5 inch in length x .5 wide and really really small thin white worms which at first glance looked like what I thought were threadworm. It seems that you can find out everything about worming up to the point of discovering them dead. Then nothing. Wouldn't have known anything was wrong as horse is fit and healthy on the outside shiny coat, fit and competing - Just goes to show how important regular checks are!!

I agree. Although tapeworm doesnt show upon a faecal eggcount, only by bloodtest. Probiotics may be a good idea following worming
to help the gut populate with good bacteria.
